Vidit Gujrathi Qualifies for Chess World Cup, 4th Indian to do so

India’s No. 3 player Vidit Gujrathi has qualified for the FIDE Chess World Cup 2021 on the basis of his rating, which will be held in Sochi, Russia from July 10. Grandmaster Gujrati thus became the fourth Indian player to qualify for the upcoming World Cup.


Gujrati will play in the World Cup for the third time, having previously played in 2017 and 2019, before Grandmaster P Harikrishna, Arvind Chidambaram and P Inian have qualified for the World Cup. While Koneru Humpy, D Harika, Bhakti Kulkarni, R Vaishali and Padmini Raut have

qualified for the Women’s World Cup.
