WhatsApp softened on new privacy policy, said in Delhi High Court – will not put pressure on users

WhatsApp seems to be going soft on its new privacy policy. WhatsApp on Friday told the Delhi High Court that it will not force users to adopt a new privacy policy until the data protection bill comes into force.

WhatsApp told the High Court that it will not limit the scope of use for users who do not adopt the new privacy policy.

Chief Justice D.N. Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh that it will not limit the functionality for users who are not opting for the new privacy policy in the meantime.

Senior advocate Harish Salve, appearing for instant messaging platform WhatsApp, said, “We have voluntarily agreed to put it (policy) on hold… We will not force people to accept it.” Salve said that WhatsApp will still continue to show updates to its users.

The High Court is hearing an appeal by Facebook and its firm WhatsApp, which refused to stay competition regulator CCI’s order to investigate the new privacy policy of WhatsApp against the order of a single judge bench.
