All-rounder Yusuf Pathan, who retired from all forms of cricket at the beginning of the year, is once again ready to rain fours and sixes on the field. Yusuf will be seen playing in the upcoming Lanka Premier League.
IPL star Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, including Yusuf Pathan, Australia all-rounders Ben Cutting and James Faulkner, besides South Africa captain Temba Bavuma have registered their names for the second edition of the LPL.
The second edition of the Lanka Premier League will be held from July 30
The second edition of the Lanka Premier League will start from July 30. The final of this three-week long tournament will be played on 22 August. The first edition of this league was successfully organized from 26 November to 16 December last year.
Bangladeshi players will also play this time
Last time Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) did not allow its players to play in this league but this time Bangladeshi players will be seen playing in this T20 league.
Players who have registered themselves to play in the Lanka Premier League include pacers Mitchell McClenaghan, Nicholas Pooran, Mohammad Mahmudullah, Sherfane Rutherford, Ravi Rampaul, David Weiss and Callum Ferguson.
Irfan Pathan played for Candy Tuskers
Brendan Taylor of Zimbabwe, Sandeep Lamichhane of Nepal and Ali Khan of UAE are also included. Irfan Pathan, younger brother of former India all-rounder Yusuf Pathan, played for Candy Tuskers last year. Yusuf will also be available for selection.
Last time Jaffna Stallions won the title
Ravin Wickramaratne, Vice President of Sri Lanka Cricket, said, “Looking at the success of the last time, many other players have shown interest in playing in this league which is a good sign for the league and Sri Lankan cricket.” The last time this tournament was organized under Bio Bubble where Jaffna Stallions won the title. Jaffna won the first edition of this tournament by defeating Galle Gladiators in the final.
Dhanushka Gunatilka top scored with 476 runs
Galle Gladiators batsman Dhanushka Gunathilka scored the most runs in LPL 2020. Gunatilka had scored 476 runs in 10 matches. Most wickets went to Wanindu Hasaranga of Jaffna Stallions. Hasaranga took the maximum 17 wickets.
